EDITING MOVIES FOR TEENS

For youth, ages 11-14 years: An introduction and overview of computer video editing. Students will learn the basics of video filming and editing videos using software. 20 hours.

CAREERS IN INFORMATION SECURITY AND COMPUTER FORENSICS

For youth, ages 11-16. This one-of-a-kind course introduces the student to what it is like to work in the exciting fields of information security and computer forensics. As part of the class, students will be walked through the process of conducting a computing investigation, using the same tools used by computer forensics experts. Some topics to be covered include:

The Ten Domains of Security

  • Intrusion Prevention Systems
  • Honeypots
  • Host System Security
  • Malware
  • Conducting a Risk Assessment
  • Conducting Vulnerability Assessments

Introduces youth, ages 12-14, to computer game programming. Includes a survey of computer game categories, major game components and an overview of game development process. 20 hours.

LEARN TO BUILD A PC

For youth, ages 11-15. Interested in learning how to build or upgrade your own computer? This 16-hour course covers various PC architectures, components, and safety issues, with several hands-on labs. An online lab will help you design a PC using brand-name equipment found on the web, learning about the wide array of vendors and possible compatibility issues. We’ll conclude by applying what you’ve learned to build a PC, partition and format its hard drive, and navigate the occasionally troublesome Windows XP installation process.
